Imagine an entire jumbo jet–sized museum exhibit—literally. When Delta Air Lines retired the 747-400, they memorialized the iconic passenger plane by transforming it into a permanent exhibit and event space outside the Delta Flight Museum.

The Challenge
As the shift toward smaller, more fuel-efficient airplanes continues, Delta Air Lines and other major carriers made the decision to retire the 747 jumbo jet. To forever memorialize the first 747-400 built by the Boeing Aircraft Company, Delta tasked Hannan with a complete renovation project that tested the bounds of innovation. Across more than 60,000 square feet, Hannan reimagined two hangars and the historic airplane to create a museum exhibit unlike any other in the world.
The Results
Adjacent to the airfield at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the state-of-the-art “747 Experience” at the Delta Flight Museum underwent both new construction and an interior renovation, spanning power infrastructure, heating and air conditioning, and the installation of finishes. Other highlights include:

- Full theater and catering-ready kitchen
